The book of Mormon has this great quote when it says, “ . . . nobody will obtain salvation by means of teachings!” This means that in order for us to obtain salvation, we need to rely on Christ’s atonement and keep the commandments.
It doesn't mean that we can't find out about Him or His great plan for us by reading the scriptures, studying the gospel, and praying to the Lord. But it does mean that we must rely on Christ and His perfect atonement to obtain our own salvation.
